LATE CHILDHOOD

Late childhood is the stage wherein the child becomes sexually mature. In MOST young children, there is a change in the pattern of their lives.As they adjust to the new demands and expectations of their lives, they become emotionally disturbed.Many changes take place in their behavior, attitudes and way of life.

It is also called the "sloppy age"- the troublesome age in which the child is no longer willing to do the things he was told to do so.Again it is the quarrelsome age because the child indulged in a small quarrel.

Again there is a gang spirit in which the major concern is the acceptance by the age-mates in a gang. there is a team spirit in a play activities and creative works.

TRADITIONAL BELIEFS ABOUT PEOPLE OF ALL AGES

Traditional beliefs are part of a person's life. Today, there were numerous of beliefs that people believed. Some of them are:

CONCEPTION AND THE BIRTH OF A CHILD
* It is said that if the abdomen of the pregnant is round, then the baby inside is a girl; but if it is pointed, the baby is a boy.
* Whatever the pregnant mother wants, it must be provided.
* A pregnant woman who eats twin bananas will give birth to twins. In order to prevent this, she must split the banana on her back.
* After the baby is delivered, the umbilical cord must be rubbed on the newborn's cheek to produce dimples.

INFANTS
* When the baby always hold his feet, it just means that he wants to have a younger brother or sister.
* If the baby's eyelashes will be cut during her first month, as she grows, her eyelashes will grow long and beautiful.
* When a baby is baptized, he should be carried by a person with plenty of coins in his hand or pocket. This brings good luck to the baby.

CHILDREN
* A child that cries during his baptism is a sign of prosperity. The harder the child cries, the richer he will be.
* When a child is ready to walk, put him on the stairs. Have him step on a plate or anywhere else so long as his feet do not touch the ground first. This is to ensure that he will always find his way home from wherever he may roam.
* If a child's milk tooth falls out, throw it up onto the roof of the house so that the rats will find it. When the new tooth grows in, it will be as strong and as powerful as a rat's tooth.
* Stepping over a child while he is asleep will slow down his growth.

SIGNIFICANT FACTS ABOUT HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

1. Early foundations are critical
- because it was at this stage wherein the attitudes and behavior of a child will start to develop. As what the bible says that as the child was born there is already an innate attitude on him. So, therefore, there must be someone who will supervise and monitor the child. It is very important that at early years the child will be mold on the best attitude because it is hard to teach the child the best attitude when he is old already.

2. Maturation and learning are responsible for development.
- Maturation and Learning must go with each other simply because through the learned experiences make people became mature.

4. All individuals are different.
- this is truly a significant fact of human development. You can never find two people who shared the same characteristics. Every individual is unique. For example: there are two grade school students. These students may have similarities but still there is always something that can only be found on the first student and something that can also only be detected on the second student.

10. There are traditional beliefs about individuals at all ages.
- There are traditional beliefs in development. For example: in order for you to know who will be your future partner, you must wake up in the middle of the night and face the mirror while holding lighted candle and just then an image will appear at the mirror and that is your partner in life. Another is that if a pregnant woman's abdomen is pointed, her baby will be a boy; if it is round, the baby will be a girl.
